Princess Husband, Too Mensao!

Sorry Sussex County, but.......
Been thinking about it since getting home from tour. We got more out of playing to almost empty bars and tattoo parlors than we could have ever from playing close to home. Point: at home everyone is up each other's ass and there's no way of permeating the circle unless you're "cool." It's a painful reality, but it's true. If you are a musician or a band, go. Get out. Go play elsewhere. You're hometown unfortunately ends up being the most cliqy place you can be, and unfortunately even with music and art. Someone, somewhere, wants to hear you. Home is where the heart is, but it doesn't mean your heart. Music isn't what others think, it's what you think. Screw the impenetrable circles of home. Go out and share your work with others who know nothing about you. Strangers care more than friends. I can attest to that. Go and play. Play out anywhere but home. Because when you play only in your home town, you'll lose yourself. At least to the eyes and ears of strangers, you'll be something new. If you're a band or musician and feel that you can't get a leg up in your hometown music scene, understand that it's not you. People monopolize open mics and venues and turn anyone outside of their crowed away. It's sad but true. As a musician, your only friend is the road. I've almost lost my mind because of this shit. You write and write and write and play and play and play. You ask other bands to play with you at shows and they decline because of A, B, and C. But then you see all of them booking and playing shows with everyone else. But no one asks you to play. I've seen it happen to others. It's true. It is ungodly true. Write your music, record it however you want and hit the road. Who cares that so and so spent whatever amount of money at the local studio. Money, people, friends, venues... none of that shit matters. Just write your music and play it where you can. If you can't book any shows near home, then you know you've got something bigger than home can handle. Fuck the cliques. Fuck being cool. Just play the rock n'roll in your heart. And this isn't to be spiteful. It's to point out the truth. And to hopefully inspire others to follow their dreams and play the music in their hearts. Princess Husband, Too Mensao!
